Oklahoma Parent Tax Credit for Private Schools

  Families in Oklahoma may qualify for the Parental Choice Tax Credit, a program designed to help cover private school tuition and fees. The program provides eligible families with a refundable tax credit ranging from $5,000 to $7,500 per student attending an approved private school.  

What Is the Parental Choice Tax Credit?

 The Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit helps parents and guardians offset the cost of private education. The credit can be used toward:

  • Tuition 
  • Enrollment fees 
  • Registration fees 
  • Technology fees 
  • Testing fees 
  • Some school uniform costs paid directly to the school 

The amount families may receive depends on household income and eligible school expenses. 

How Much Can Families Receive?

 Credit amounts are based on the parent or guardian’s federal adjusted gross income (AGI):

Household Income (AGI)                               Maximum Credit Per Student

Up to $75,000                                                $7,500

$75,001 - $150,000                                       $7,000       

$150,001–$225,000                                      $6,500

$225,001–$250,000                                      $6,000

Over $250,000                                              $5,000 

Who Is Eligible?

  Eligible applicants may include:

  • Parents 
  • Legal guardians 
  • Grandparents 
  • Other individuals with legal authority to act on behalf of the student 

Students must attend or plan to attend an approved participating private school in Oklahoma. 

What Information Is Needed?

 Families will typically need:

  • Student information 
  • An Enrollment Verification Number (EVN) from the private school 
  • Parent or guardian tax information from two years prior 
  • Oklahoma or federal tax return information 

For example, applications for the 2026–2027 school year use 2024 tax information. 

How Are Payments Made?

  If approved, the Oklahoma Tax Commission sends payments directly to the participating school in installments. Checks are made payable to the taxpayer and must be signed over to the school if tuition has not already been paid. 

Important Reminder

 Application windows are limited each year, and funding caps apply statewide. Families are encouraged to apply early and communicate directly with their school regarding participation requirements and Enrollment Verification Numbers.
